Egypt recloses Rafah crossing before stranded Gazans

Tuesday 13-December-2016

Egypt on Tuesday re-closed the Rafah border-crossing with Gaza before stranded Palestinians and humanitarian cases.

Media director at Rafah crossing Wael Abu Omar said the Egyptian authorities banned 160 Gazans from crossing the Rafah border crossing for unknown reasons.

On Monday the Egyptian authorities prevented 64 Palestinians from traveling via Rafa crossing.

Egypt opened Rafah border crossing with Gaza for three days on Saturday to allow passage for humanitarian cases and others stuck on either side of the border.

According to Abu Omar 3555 passengers gained access out of and into Gaza during the three-day opening.

Hundreds of Palestinian students sick citizens and humanitarian cases have been stranded in the blockaded Gaza Strip due to Egypt’s quasi-permanent closure of the Rafah border-crossing since the summer of 2013. A tough Israeli blockade imposed on the coastal enclave for the 10th year running has made life far worse for Gazans.
