Dozens of Jewish settlers stormed the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem on Sunday under the protection of the Israeli occupation police. Local sources reported that around 403 settlers carried out provocative tours in the Al-Aqsa courtyards, performed Talmudic rituals, and organized a singing and dancing circle in its corridors, while the occupation police prevented Palestinians from entering the Old City and the Mosque.

This incursion comes on the fourth day of the Jewish Festival of Lights, “Hanukkah,” which has seen calls from settler leaders to increase incursions coinciding with the “holiday,” which continues until the end of this week.

Mufti of Jerusalem: Outrageous assaults on Al-Aqsa’s sanctity
For his part, the Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories, Muhammad Hussein, said on Sunday that the Israeli occupation authorities are the ones preparing for the incursions of settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque and protecting them. He added, in media statements, that a large number of settlers storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the pretext of Jewish holidays, which will continue for eight days, starting last Wednesday and lasting until next Wednesday.

He emphasized that these incursions are blatant assaults on the sanctity and holiness of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as settlers engage in activities they claim are religious practices and Talmudic rituals, as well as Torah prayers, among other names they give these acts that violate the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, without any deterrent.

He pointed out that the Israeli occupation government sponsors these incursions, and the first storming of the Mosque last Wednesday was led by the Minister of National Security, Ben Gvir, who is supposed to prevent these assaults but is instead leading them.

Elation of exclusivity
In turn, researcher specializing in Jerusalem affairs, Ziad Abhais, expressed his pain at these scenes, saying: “On the fourth day of the Hebrew Festival of Lights, the Zionist intruders display their elation at their exclusivity over the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

Abhais said in a post on X on Sunday: “On the fourth day of the Torah “Festival of Lights,” and the second day of incursions during this holiday—as incursions cease on Friday and Saturday—366 settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque today, performing the priests’ blessings loudly and celebrating the Festival of Lights in its eastern courtyard in a rare incident in its history, as settlers have imposed these rituals at its gates since 2017, hoping to perform them inside Al-Aqsa, and today came the day they transferred these celebrations inside Al-Aqsa.”

He noted that at the same time, a group of settlers performed a showy dance near the northern colonnades of Al-Aqsa while singing “This building is complete,” indicating that their current situation of exclusivity over the Mosque is closer to completing the alleged temple, in a rush for the results of the war and an attempt to consider the current situation a final outcome.

An Israeli extremist minister joins the intruders
Israeli Minister of Communications Shlomo Karhi stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday, accompanied by settlers, and performed religious rituals inside one of the tunnels beneath the Buraq Plaza in occupied Jerusalem. Hamas condemned this act and his statements.

In a post on the platform X, Karhi commented on entering Al-Aqsa, saying: “In these days, as the soldiers of Israel achieve victories on all fronts, I remember the words of the Midrash (Jewish religious texts): In the future, the gates of Jerusalem will reach the gates of Damascus.”

Israel opened a tunnel beneath the western wall of Al-Aqsa in 1996, along with other tunnels announced in recent years around the Mosque. The Islamic Waqf in Jerusalem pointed out that Israel is conducting extensive excavations in the entire area, including beneath the Mosque and its surroundings.

Hamas condemns and warns
In a statement, Hamas said, “The storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the terrorist minister Karhi with the settlers, and his remarks confirming the aspirations of his rogue entity to reach the gates of Damascus, is a clear indication of this entity’s colonial intentions and ambitions towards Arab lands, which are manifested in its ongoing aggression against the countries and peoples of the region.”

The Movement condemned the incursion and described his statements as “dangerous.” It called on the Arab and Islamic nations to “unite in confronting this occupation policy, resist the plans of the fascist occupation and its continuous aggression, and take effective action to stop the ongoing genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip.”

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir had stormed Al-Aqsa on the first day of the Jewish Festival of Lights (Hanukkah).

Ben Gvir announced that he ascended to the site of the Jewish Temple, referring to Al-Aqsa, to “pray for the safety of soldiers, the return of the captives, and the absolute victory in the war,” as he expressed.

For its part, Hamas commented on the incursion, stating, “The storming of Al-Aqsa by the terrorist minister Ben Gvir is a serious violation that reflects the escalation of the extremist occupation government’s stance towards Al-Aqsa.”
