The Palestinian Energy Authority revealed on Wednesday that 70% of electricity transmission and distribution networks have been destroyed in the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
The head of The Palestinian Energy Authority Jalal Ismail said in a statement published by the Government Media Office (GMO) that the estimated losses surge to over $80 million.
Ismail highlighted in previous remarks published in the wake of the aggression that the Israeli goal is cutting off all sources of power in Gaza to make it an uninhabitable place.
While the Gaza Strip’s average electricity needs under normal circumstances are estimated at 550 megawatts what was available until the eve of the war did not exceed 205 megawatts.
Since 2010 the electricity company in the blockaded Gaza Strip has been resorting to a rotating system of energy supplies by operating it in some places and cutting it off in other places in order to meet the needs of the population.
The energy sources in Gaza were distributed as follows: 65 megawatts from the Electricity Generation Company and 120 megawatts from Israel in addition to 20 megawatts from solar energy sources.
Since the start of the Israeli bloody aggression on Gaza the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) announced cutting off electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile Israeli war minister ordered cutting off supplies to the Gaza Strip including electricity water fuel and food.
The UN and international human rights institutions however underscored that the Israeli denial of the Palestinian right to basic services and preventing the entry of fuel affects all aspects of life in Gaza including hospitals and exposes the lives of residents and patients to danger.
