Guterres: Number of civilian casualties staggering and unacceptable

Monday 20-November-2023

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Sunday the Israeli aggression on Gaza is inflicting a “staggering” and “unacceptable” number of civilian casualties reiterating his calls for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced Sunday evening that the number of casualties who fell in the Israeli bloody aggression on Gaza has risen to 12415 martyrs and 32500 wounded since October7.

The Ministry explained in its daily report on the aggression that it has been encountering difficulties in obtaining updated information for the seventh day in a row due to the communication blackout across the Gaza Strip and the collapse of the internet service in hospitals north of Gaza.

The report affirmed that that the number of martyrs in the Gaza Strip as of Saturday evening surged to more than 12300 martyrs including about 5000 children 3250 women and 690 elderly people while the number of the injured reached more than 29500.

Some people recently displaced from the north reported corpses of martyrs in the streets. As of November 15 more than 4000 citizens including 2000 children are still missing.

The Ministry revealed as well that around 205 health personnel and 36 civil defense personnel were martyred along with more than 215 wounded health workers. More than 60 ambulances were attacked 55 of which were damaged and knocked out of service.

It also indicated that 26 out of 35 hospitals in Gaza and 52 out of 72 primary health care clinics which means more than two-thirds of the clinics stopped working due to damage caused by bombing or because of the lack of fuel. The remaining nine hospitals are though operating partially.
