Qatar’s ambassador to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, called for pumping more humanitarian aid to all areas of Gaza, expressing her country’s hope to reach a sustainable ceasefire in the Strip.
The Qatari delegate said, after a special session of the UN Security Council devoted to discussing the temporary humanitarian truce, that there is a need to stop the bloodshed in Gaza.
“The situation on the ground is appalling, and what Qatar wants to see is reaching, step by step, the ultimate goal, which is a sustainable ceasefire,” she added.
“We want more humanitarian truces, greater alleviation of the suffering of the Palestinian people and the protection of civilians, that is our goal,” she said.
It is noteworthy that Qatar played a pivotal role in reaching a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, announcing on Monday the extension of the humanitarian truce in Gaza for two more days which Hamas confirmed it follows the same terms of the previous truce.
Today, a fifth batch of Israeli prisoners in Gaza, comprising 10 individuals, is expected to be released in exchange for the release of 30 Palestinians from Israeli prisons, as well as the entry of more aid and fuel to the Gaza Strip.
