GENEVA, (PIC)
Luis Ocampo, former prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, has called for launching an urgent investigation into Israel’s al-Mawasi massacre in the Gaza Strip, activating the mechanisms of international law in this regard and holding those involved accountable for what he called a “clear war crime.”
In recent televised remarks, Ocampo expressed his strong belief in the international law and its role in protecting victims and called for safeguarding this law by holding war criminals accountable.
He accused the Israeli regime of having a premeditated intent to commit the massacre in al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis and ignoring a previous ICC warning calling for not invading Rafah because there was no other safe place for the civilians to go to.
“Unfortunately, Israel bombed a place that was supposed to be safe, which confirms that the Israeli army acted with a criminal intent. This makes the case clear to the court and enable it to request the issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli leaders,” Ocampo told Al Jazeera satellite channel.
“The international community can develop a mechanism to punish countries that obstruct the peace process and the ceasefire efforts through preventing them from taking part in the international system,” the former ICC official stressed.
