The Hamas Movement has mourned Sheikh Mustafa Muhammad Abu Arra, who has been martyred inside Israeli occupation prisons.

In a statement on Friday, Hamas said the martyrdom of the Hamas figure Sheikh Abu Arra is a new cowardly crime of assassination, added to Israel’s criminal record against Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas condemned the escalation of the Israeli policy of medical neglect and inhumane treatment pursued against Palestinian detainees in consistence with the Israeli occupation government’s recent decisions which urge for more violence against them, pledging to continue its efforts to free all prisoners.

Sheikh Abu Arra, 63, from the town of Aqaba near Tubas, was martyred after being transferred from Rimon Prison to Soroka Hospital, due to the deterioration of his health, following systematic medical neglect.

For its part, the Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Society confirmed the news of the martyrdom of Abu Arra, who was held in administrative detention.

Abu Arra who has seven children had been subjected to several arrests since 1990 and spent a total of 12 years in detention. He was one of the deportees to Marj al-Zuhur in South Lebanon in 1992.

His last arrest was on October 30 last year. Since then, he was subjected, along with the rest of the prisoners, to torture and starvation and suffered from medical crimes, which was the main reason for his martyrdom.

The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Society held the Israeli occupation prison administration fully responsible for the martyrdom of Abu Arra, expressing deep concern over the fate of over 9,700 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, noting that this number does not include all the detainees from Gaza.

The Ministry of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners condemned the Israeli occupation’s assassination of Abu Arra, noting that his martyrdom brings the number of martyred prisoners who died because of torture and medical neglect inside Israeli prisons since the beginning of the war of genocide in Gaza, to more than 55 martyrs including more than 38 detainees from the Gaza Strip.
