The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has accused the Israeli administration of the Negev prison of deliberately pursuing a starvation policy against Palestinian prisoners and medically neglecting them with the aim of torturing them physically and psychologically.

“The prison administration blatantly violates international humanitarian conventions that protect detainees’ rights,” the Commission said in a statement on Sunday.

According to the Commission’s lawyer who visited the prison recently, the prisoners are being exposed to ongoing physical and psychological abuses, including repeated beatings, verbal attacks and escalating medical neglect.

The Negev prisoners are also served poor food, while skin diseases, such as scabies, are widespread among them due to the absence of hygiene and the lack of sufficient clothing and personal care products, the Commission pointed out.

The Commission appealed to the international community and its organizations to urgently move to hold Israel accountable for its violations against the Palestinian prisoners and oblige it to respect their rights in accordance with the international law.
