The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said the Israeli Damon prison administration, where Palestinian female prisoners are held, confiscated their Islamic clothes including hijabs, and niqabs, and forced them to wear only gray sport suits without hijab.
The Commission explained in a statement on Tuesday that this took place recently after the prison administration had changed and a new director was appointed, as they were informed that these new rules will be applied permanently in revenge for October 7 attack.
The Commission added that the situation of the 94 female prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons has gone from bad to worse.
According to a testimony by one of the female prisoners whom the Commission’s lawyers were able to visit, prison rooms were subjected to arbitrary searches on a daily basis at dawn hours, adding that Israeli jailers storm the sections, select one or two rooms, take the detained women out of the rooms, and detain them for more than one hour in the prison yard.
She explained that the prison guards strip female prisoners during storming their rooms, in addition to confiscating their simple belongings such as empty plastic boxes they use instead of cups, and confiscating threads they pulled out from blankets to make bracelets for entertainment during long days in custody.
The female prisoners reported that they were only allowed to have one change of summer clothes, as the prison administration refuses to give them warm or extra clothes, noting that each prisoner has only one towel which turns into half a towel when a new female prisoner enters the prison, as they share all they got because the prison administration does not provide personal necessities for new detainees.
The Commission added that female prisoners in Damon suffer from severe shortage of basic needs including, clothes, shoes, cleaning materials, blankets, adding that the Damon prison administration deliberately installed, two weeks ago, lighting switches outside prisoners’ rooms and cancelled the internal switches to allow the prison guards to control lighting times.
The Commission’s lawyer quoted some of the female prisoners she managed to visit, as saying that the starvation policy pursued by the prison administration against the female captives has led to hormonal changes and side effects on their bodies for months.
