Euro-Med: The IOF committed massacres against civilians in Lebanon

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor (an independent organization based in Geneva) said on Wednesday that “the Israeli army has systematically escalated its military attacks since the beginning of November, committing several massacres that resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians in Lebanon, the majority of whom are women, children, and the elderly.”

The Monitor added in a statement that “it is essential to respect and adhere to international humanitarian law, which obligates warring parties during armed conflicts to distinguish between civilians and combatants at all times.”

It emphasized that “even if allegations regarding the targeting of military leaders are true, it is unacceptable for such targeting to occur while these individuals are in civilian areas and among civilian populations, without regard for any principles of international humanitarian law, which constitutes serious violations of this law.”

The Monitor called for “the formation of a UN investigative committee to examine the violations and international crimes being committed in Lebanon.”

Since September 23, the Israeli occupation forces have expanded the scope of the genocide being perpetrated in Gaza since October 7, 2023, to include most areas of Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut, through unprecedentedly violent and intensive airstrikes. They have also begun a ground incursion in the south, disregarding international warnings and UN resolutions.

The Israeli occupation army, supported by the United States and Europe, continues its aggression on the Gaza Strip for the 411th consecutive day, with its aircraft bombing the surroundings of hospitals, buildings, towers, and homes of Palestinian civilians, destroying them atop their residents. It also prevents the entry of water, food, medicine, and fuel.

This aggression has resulted in approximately 148,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of whom are children and women, with over 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters.
