A Hamas delegation led by Mohamed Darwish, head of the Movement’s Leadership Council, met on Saturday with Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi in the Qatar capital, Doha, and discussed with him the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and different issues of mutual interests.
Darwish, who is also the head of Hamas’s Shura Council, briefed the Iranian minister on the war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation army in Gaza, especially in northern Gaza, and the tragic humanitarian situation there.
The Hamas leader also talked about the situation in the West Bank and Jerusalem, the suffering of the Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, and the recent inter-Palestinian talks that took place in Cairo.
He emphasized that any ceasefire agreement must lead to a complete cessation of the Israeli aggression against Gaza.
However, he said that Hamas is keen on ending the suffering of its people in Gaza, so it is open to any proposals put forward by mediators with the aim of ending the war.
For his part, the Iranian minister reiterated his country’s supportive position on the Palestinian cause and applauded the Palestinian people’s steadfastness and sacrifices.
Darwish also met on the same day with director of Türkiye’s intelligence agency Ibrahim Kalin in Doha and discussed with him the war on Gaza and different regional and international developments.
The Hamas leader highlighted other issues in the Palestinian arena and the recent national meetings between his Movement and Fatah in Cairo.
Kalin, for his part, echoed Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their national cause, affirming that Ankara would continue its diplomatic efforts to stop the war on Gaza and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza.
