The Hamas Movement condemned the terrorist explosion that led to the assassination of Khalil Rahman Haqqani, the Afghan Minister of Refugees in the caretaker government, along with several of his companions, in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

In a statement on Thursday, Hamas said, “We express our full solidarity with the Afghan brotherly people, and we extend our sincere condolences to the caretaker government and the families of the victims, asking God Almighty for mercy and forgiveness for them, swift recovery for the injured, and patience and perseverance for their loved ones.”

On Wednesday, the Afghan Minister of Refugees, Khalil Rahman Haqqani, was killed as a result of an explosion that occurred at his ministry’s headquarters in Kabul, attributed to the Islamic State. This is the first attack targeting a minister since the Taliban returned to power in 2021.

A spokesperson for the Taliban said in a statement that the Islamic State was responsible for killing Khalil Haqqani, while the organization has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Haqqani became a minister in the interim Taliban government after the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan in 2021 and was a senior leader in the Haqqani armed group.
