Al Jazeera news network said Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces arrested one of its reporters after preventing him from covering the Israeli military operation in Jenin City and its refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
The Qatar-based news network reported Thursday that its reporter, Mohamed al-Atrash, was arrested from his home in al-Khalil City at dawn Thursday.
Al Jazeera said PA security forces had prevented him earlier today from reporting on the large-scale Israeli military operation in Jenin. The PA security services already launched its own crackdown on the Palestinian resistance in Jenin late last year.
Al-Atrash has been exposed recently to incitement by officials from the Fatah Movement and the PA security services for his coverage of the recent PA security campaign and its violations in Jenin.
Recently, the PA, which partially governs the occupied West Bank and has security ties with Israel, has banned Al Jazeera from operating in the area and blocked access to several of the network’s websites.
The PA claimed the ban was imposed over “incitement material, misinformation, sedition and interference in Palestinian internal affairs.”
