Tala al-Barghouti, daughter of the al-Qassam Brigades leader and sentenced-to-life prisoner Abdullah al-Barghouti, revealed tragic details about the abuse and maltreatment her father is facing in Israeli occupation prisons.

Al-Barghouti’s daughter explained that her father is beaten severely every day for long hours after prisoners get evacuated from the ward, leaving him alone to be tortured with various instruments, including belts and iron batons.

She added that daily assaults have left serious marks on her father’s body, including severe fractures in addition to feeling severe pains that prevent him from standing or moving, and suffering from painful boils and open wounds without receiving any proper medical treatment.

She further elaborated that other prisoners try to disinfect his wounds using primitive means in light of absolute absence of health care, noting that his health has deteriorated so seriously to the extent that he has become unable to sleep lying down; rather, he sleeps sitting up due to fractures and severe pain. His weight has dropped to only 70 kilograms.

Al-Barghouti’s daughter called for urgent action to save her father whose health and life are at real risk, amid escalating medical neglect and systematic violence he faces inside the occupation prisons.

Israeli occupation forces arrested Abdullah al-Barghouti, a commander in the Al-Qassam Brigades the armed wing of Hamas Movement, on March 5, 2003.

Al-Barghouti holds the record for the longest prison sentence in history, having been sentenced to 67 life sentences in prison.

Al-Barghouti, known as the “Prince of the Shadow,” is one of the most prominent leaders of the Al-Qassam Brigades in the West Bank who supervised commando operations that led to the killing of dozens of Israeli settlers.

The occupation forces hold Barghouti responsible for several high-profile resistance attacks that killed more than 66 Israelis, wounded about 500 others, caused massive destruction in the streets of 1948 Occupied Palestine, and resulted in direct losses estimated at millions of dollars.
