The Asra Media Office (AMO) said on Saturday that what is happening in the Rakefet section of the Ramleh Israeli prison can only be described as a grave violation of international humanitarian law and a blatant violation of Geneva Conventions, which obligate Israel to protect prisoners and not subject them to torture.
The AMO explained in a statement that Gaza detainees are subjected to systematic torture and deliberate deprivation of basic human rights, including the right to fair trials, family visits and communications, health care, and human dignity.
“Underground, where policies of humiliation and blackmail are pursued, the prison has no longer been a place of legal punishment, but a tool for psychological and physical extermination. Lawyer visits, which were organized under strict control, constituted a narrow window through which the world managed to look at a silent hell,” it stressed.
The AMO described what is happening in Rakefet section as sentencing the detainees to a life of endless darkness.
