An Egyptian security delegation arrived on Tuesday afternoon in the Gaza Strip through the Beit Hanoun (Erez) border crossing on a visit that was not announced in advance.
The governmental media office of the crossings said in a terse statement that the Egyptian security delegation had arrived without prior notice.
The Egyptian intelligence delegation led by Ahmed Abdel Khalek the intelligence officer in charge of the Palestinian portfolio had previously held extensive meetings with the leadership of Hamas. During these meetings the two sides discussed several security and political issues.
In recent months the Egyptian intelligence delegation had visited Ramallah and met with members of the Fatah Movement and the head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Service.
The meetings focused on discussing the political and security situation in Palestine in addition to the Palestinian reconciliation file between Hamas and Fatah Movements.
The last Egyptian delegation to visit Gaza had arrived in December 2020.
