Saturday 3-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– A new ceasefire deal has been reached Friday between Fatah and Hamas Movements to end the unfortunate armed clashes between the two factions stipulating an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of armed men from the streets of Gaza Strip.

Hamas confirmed the deal adding that Khaled Mishaal the head of Hamas’ political bureau and PA chief and Fatah supreme leader Mahmoud Abbas blessed it.

The new agreement was sponsored by the Egyptian security delegation in the Strip with the aim to avoid further deterioration in the Palestinian internal security condition and to spare Palestinian blood.

Ismail Redwan the spokesman of Hamas in the Strip affirmed in a press statement he issued and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC that the two factions agreed to a ceasefire and to keep in touch with each other to avoid any unwarranted violations.

He explained that the two factions will meet again on Saturday to strike a comprehensive ceasefire deal.

Sheikh Nizar Rayyan Fathi Hammad and Khalil Nofal have represented Hamas in the meeting. Ahmed Hillis Samir Mashharawi and Abdul Hakim Awad represented Fatah.

Well-informed sources revealed that Mishaal addressed the convening parties during the meeting via telephone and that he urged them to implement terms of the agreement and to rectify the Palestinian people’s image that was tarnished following the latest regrettable incidents.

He furthermore called on Palestinian parties to preserve sanctity of the Palestinian blood reminding them that the entire Palestinian people should focus their efforts to consolidate their ranks and to strengthen their internal front so as to continue the liberation march against the Israeli occupation.
