Thousands of orphan children in the impoverished Gaza Strip have sent a distress call to the international community to intervene to end Israel’s blockade on the coastal enclave.
This came during a sit-in staged on Sunday by 500 orphans and children of martyrs and prisoners at the Beit Hanoun (Erez) border crossing in Gaza.
The children carried placards holding Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas and the Israeli occupation state fully responsible for the poor living conditions they suffer from and the crises in Gaza.
“Two million Palestinians are dying slowly in full view of the world” an orphan girl said in a speech during the sit-in.
“What makes a Gazan man whose salary was cut off by the authority of Abbas cry in order to get some food for his children?” she wondered.
She said that Abbas’s sanctions on Gaza increased the poverty and unemployment rates and made more than 80 percent of the citizens live below the poverty line.
The orphan appealed to the Arab and Muslim nations and the world’s free people to stand by the Gaza children and work on pressuring Abbas and Israel to lift their sanctions on Gaza.
