The Hamas and Islamic Jihad Movements have strongly denounced the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for opening its embassy in Tel Aviv.
“The opening of the UAE embassy in the Zionist entity marks an insistence on committing the major sin against our people and all the peoples of the region” Hamas said in a press release on Wednesday.
“The most dangerous thing is that such behavior has come from the UAE following terrorist Zionist aggression against our people and their holy sites in which massacres were committed against defenseless civilians and houses were destroyed over the heads of their residents in full view of the whole world.” Hamas added.
It also condemned the UAE step as “a dangerous decline in its politics” affirming that such step “would not only provide an official cover for the Zionist enemy to persist in committing its crimes against our Palestinian people but it would also encourage it to commit more crimes and complete its extremist and racist Judaization projects.”
“It will not be long before the normalizers (Arab countries with normalized ties with Israel) discover the enormity and gravity of their crime against their peoples the region and their sovereignty over their lands” the Movement underscored.
Hamas called on the UAE to “stop such serious deterioration in its politics and to work on righting this wrong trajectory and ending all forms of relation and normalization with the occupation state.”
For its part Islamic Jihad condemned the UAE step as “an act of treason and a criminal behavior that cannot be justified.”
“It will be recorded in history that while the occupation state was accelerating its crimes in Jerusalem its demolition of homes and desecration of the Aqsa Mosque the Emirati rulers opened an embassy in the occupied Palestinian territory” Islamic Jihad said in a statement.
“This embassy may have been built on the ruins of a house or a plot of land belonging to a Palestinian family that was displaced or massacred during the 1948 Nakba (catastrophe)” the Movement added.
The UAE — widely seen as a rogue Gulf state — on Wednesday inaugurated its embassy in Tel Aviv less than a year after it normalized its full ties with the occupation state.
The embassy is situated in the Tel Aviv stock exchange building and its opening followed the inauguration of Israel’s embassy in the UAE last month.
The UAE normalized its relations with Israel last year under the “Abraham Accords” crafted by the administration of then-US president Donald Trump.
Following its deal with the occupation state UAE leaders pushed other countries including Bahrain Morocco and Sudan to follow suit.
