RAMALLAH (PIC)– The Hamas Movement voiced doubts about the willingness of Fatah faction and the PA to make the national reconciliation efforts succeed saying that the PA security apparatuses are still persistent in the political arrest campaigns against Hamas cadres.
In a statement received by the PIC Hamas said that the confirmed reports about the torture and maltreatment practiced against Palestinian citizens affiliated with the Movement inside PA jails in addition to the escalating daily arrests carried out during raids on homes and workplaces or through summonses are a negative indicator and a major obstacle in the way of efforts made for the success of dialog.
“It is unfortunate to say that most of the released cases these days are only confined to people who had been severely tortured and subsequently taken to hospitals for the seriousness of their conditions and then release decisions followed them to the hospitals as if it is a welcomed noble deed granted by the PA in Ramallah” Hamas underlined.
Hamas noted that there are many dignitaries national and political figures who are still detained in different PA jails in the West Bank highlighting that it rejects any attempt to overpass the file of those victimized in PA jails under any circumstances or pretexts.
In another related context the center of middle east studies in Jordan urged ex-PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to take all executive and judicial measures in order to stop all forms of violations committed by his security apparatuses against activists students academics and other citizens either because of their affiliation or sympathy with the Hamas Movement.
The center called on the PA to release all political prisoners who were not charged with any criminal acts before a civil judge.
According to statistics collected by the center 515 Palestinian political prisoners in PA jails were not indicted on criminal or security charges by civil courts noting that the continuation of such arrests is one of the reasons for the failure of the inter-Palestinian dialog.
The center questioned the nature of the political and security governance in the West Bank and the ability of Abbas and his government to control and administer the security apparatuses in the West Bank expressing its belief that these apparatuses are directed by US general Keith Dayton.
It said that the violations of these security apparatuses are committed against people working in various fields such as human rights activists journalists students religious and charitable figures adding that it had testimonies by a number of ex-detainees in PA jails which confirmed their exposure to serious violations of international law.
It called on the PA to allow organizations concerned with law and human rights and parliamentary committees to visit the political prisoners and have access to the indictments filed against them.
The center concluded that Israel is the big beneficiary of the human rights violations committed against Hamas and other opposition parties by the PA security apparatuses and strongly criticized the immunity from any legal or judicial accountability enjoyed by the PA security personnel in the West Bank.
