The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) transferred on Wednesday the prisoner Basil Ajaj 45 from Tulkarem who was infected with the coronavirus to intensive care at Soroka hospital and there is no accurate information about his health condition.
The Prisoner Club stated in a statement on Wednesday that the prisoner Ajaj has been in detention since 2002 and has been sentenced to life imprisonment plus 40 years.
The club added in another context that the IPS did not inform the prisoners in Section 4 of Raymond prison until now about the results of the examinations they conducted on Tuesday.
The number of prisoners infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the outbreak reached 191 cases the last of which was in Section 4 of Raymond prison. 90 prisoners are being held in Raymond including 43 sick prisoners and four prisoners over the age of 60 years.
The club monitored several facts over the past months regarding the conditions of prisoners in the Israeli occupation prisons with the spread of the pandemic including the procrastination in providing the necessary preventive measures in the prisoners’ sections such as sterilizers.
Furthermore dozens of new prisoners are being held in detention centers that lack the minimum conditions for human life as happens in the centers of Huwara and Etzion.
It pointed out that the IPS isolated detainees in these two centers for periods of more than 20 days in tragic and inhuman conditions under the name of quarantine.
The IPS prevents the prisoners from communicating with their families and meeting with their lawyers according to the club.
