Israel closes Karam Abu Salem crossing in Gaza for one week

Tuesday 22-September-2015

GAZA (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Monday decided to close Karam Abu Salem border crossing southeast of Gaza to the movement of goods and aid for a whole week at the pretext of celebrating Jewish holidays.

Nadmi Muhanna head of the general authority for borders and crossings stated that the IOA would close Karam Abu Salem crossing from 22 to 29 September and would only allow in some fuel shipments next Thursday Friday and Sunday.

970 trucks laden with aid and commercial supplies were allowed into Gaza through the crossing on Monday morning.

Karam Abu Salem crossing which is routinely closed on Fridays and Saturdays is considered the sole commercial passage through which goods and fuel shipments find their way into Gaza.

The crossings are crucial to the economy of the Gaza Strip and to the daily lives of its population. Closing the crossings is considered mass punishment for all civilians living in this besieged enclave.
