Israeli navy kidnaps two Gaza fishermen

Sunday 4-December-2016

The Israeli navy on Sunday afternoon kidnapped two fishermen and seized their boats as they were working off the northern shores of Gaza City.

According to chief of the fishermen Nizar Ayyash the fishermen are 30-year-old Saadi al-Sultan and 28-year-old Shafiq al-Sultan.

Ayyash told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that both men were fishing off the coast of al-Sudaniya area in northern Gaza City when naval soldiers opened fire at them and then rounded them up.

He added that the navy confiscated their fishing boats and equipment and took them to the Israeli port of Ashdod near Gaza Sea.

In an earlier incident the Israeli naval forces in the morning opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fishermen during their presence within the permitted fishing zone in Gaza waters.

Luckily no one was hurt in the gunfire attack.

Gaza fishermen who struggle to make ends meet are exposed to either assaults or arrests by the Israeli navy almost on a daily basis.
