Israeli settlers live in fear of being attacked from beneath

Tuesday 23-January-2007

GAZA (PIC)– While the Israeli occupation make the Palestinian people live in the constant fear of being attacked from the air Israeli settlers in Nerem settlements near the Gaza Strip live in the fear of being attacked from beneath according to the Hebrew daily Maariv newspaper.

The paper revealed that an extreme state of fear was engulfing the settlers due to sounds of excavations they reportedly heard coming from underground.

According to the paper the sounds were similar to sounds the IOF troops used to hear during their presence in former Israeli settlements in Gaza Strip before Palestinian armed operation against there military posts occurred.

One of the settlers confirmed that he heard the sounds; but he acknowledged that the Israeli army found nothing suspicious after searching the area. This did not help in allaying the fears of the settlers that they could be attacked from underground tunnels.

According to the paper the IOF troops opted not to leave room for doubt over the matter and started digging in the suspicious area especially after the successful Palestinian armed operations last June that resulted in the killing of three IOF servicemen at an IOF military post at Kerem Shalom crossing point last June where a fourth IOF serviceman Gilad Shalit was kidnapped; but found nothing suspicious.

Armed wing of Hamas the Qassam Brigades carried out a number of successful operations through tunnels they dug in Gaza Strip that destroyed a number of IOF bases in and around the Gaza Strip.
