The Palestinian Authority on Saturday detained the Palestinian activist Omar Assaf member of preparatory committee of the Palestinian Popular Conference (PPC) scheduled to be held in the afternoon in Ramallah.
PA security officers intensified their presence in the vicinity of the headquarters of the popular alliance for change in Ramallah in an attempt to ban the conference.
The detention of activist Assaf in addition to a number of activists in charge of the conference came as an attempt to foil its convening according to Taysir al-Zabri member of Popular Alliance for Change.
The PA had decided to ban the PPC set to be held at the Municipal Theater in Ramallah Municipality.
Earlier today the PA detained Muammar Orabi Director General of Watan Media Network after he recorded the speech of activist Assaf at the network’s headquarters in Ramallah.
The conference was organized by the PPC a group that describes itself as a voice for 14 million Palestinians around the world. It aims at calling for reconstructing the Palestine Liberation Organization by holding elections for its legislative body.
