With a thin body, long white hair, and a thick beard, Dr. Aziz Dweik, the Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, arrived in Al-Khalil in the occupied West Bank after the Israeli occupation forces released him following an arrest that lasted about eight months.

The appearance in which Dweik was released is a model of the condition of the Palestinian prisoners released recently due to the severe practices of Israeli terrorism against them, which include starvation, torture, sleep deprivation, and lack of clothes.

Dweik suffered from very difficult health conditions during his detention, as he did not receive the appropriate medical treatment and was not allowed to meet his family throughout his detention period.

Recently, bloggers have compared the images of Palestinian prisoners emerging from the Israeli prisons in poor health and shabby appearance to the condition of the Israeli captives who were released by the resistance in Gaza in good condition despite the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Dweik also suffers from anemia and hemoglobin deficiency due to diabetes, and he had previously undergone catheterization and Lithotripsy.

The occupation forces arrested Dweik on October 17th of the past year and issued an administrative detention order against him for a period of 6 months.

Dweik, who is from the city of Al-Khalil in the southern West Bank, has held the presidency of the Legislative Council since the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, won the majority of seats in the 2006 parliamentary elections, but the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, announced that the Constitutional Court in Ramallah decided to dissolve the Council at the end of 2018.

The occupation army has been escalating its aggression and crimes against prisoners in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem since the aggression on Gaza started in October last year, in addition to storming cities, towns, villages and refugee camps, and shooting Palestinians with live ammunition, which has led to the martyrdom of hundreds and the arrest of thousands.

Moreover, the occupation authority escalated its terrorist practices against the Palestinian prisoners, as news was received about the martyrdom of dozens of prisoners and detainees, while thousands from the Gaza Strip are subjected to enforced disappearance.
