For more than seven months, citizen Samir Shabat, who lives abroad, has been searching for a satisfactory answer about the fate of his father, Salah Shabat (50 years old), who went missing following the Israeli attack on Al-Quds Open University in Tel Sultan, Rafah, on June 17, 2024.
On that day, the Tel Sultan area in Rafah witnessed Israeli assaults on displaced persons at the university, resulting in injuries and the disappearance of his father and others. Since then, no official information or updates have been provided regarding his whereabouts or health status, leaving his family in a state of constant anxiety.
Where is the truth?
The expatriate son, Samir Shabat, the eldest son of Salah, is going through a difficult psychological state. Living abroad, he finds himself unable to help due to the lack of information about his father.
Samir said to our correspondent, “Every night I stay awake, my mind is occupied all the time; I can’t live in this uncertainty. All I want is to know the truth.”
Samir has made significant efforts to obtain information by contacting humanitarian organizations and official agencies, but he has not received any positive updates thus far.
Waiting and anticipation
In Gaza, Salah Shabat’s only sister is also living in a state of waiting and anticipation. She stated, “Every day passes while we wait for any news. Anxiety dominates our lives; the situation is very difficult, especially under the current conditions we are living through here.”
This suffering adds to the daily challenges faced by Gaza’s residents due to the security and humanitarian situation. Despite the family’s ongoing efforts, including their communication with local and international humanitarian organizations like the Red Cross, no new information has emerged about Salah Shabat’s whereabouts or status.
Despite these difficulties, the family continues to search and communicate with relevant authorities in hopes of finding any evidence that could help determine his fate. Samir appealed, saying, “Under these difficult circumstances, Salah Shabat’s family urges the international community and humanitarian organizations to assist in revealing Salah’s fate and to provide any information that may help locate him.”
He added that the family hopes someone will help end the uncertainty they are living in and provide them with hope of receiving any positive news.
Even after several months have passed since Salah Shabat went missing, his family members still hold onto hope that the truth will eventually be discovered. Amid the challenging conditions in Gaza, the family remains in a state of continuous waiting, with hopes resting on any assistance or information that could transform their uncertain situation into one of reassurance.
