In the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, the fate of Mahmoud Mustafa Munib Sarsour (41 years old) remains unknown since he was shot by an Israeli sniper on November 15, 2023. Despite being injured on Street 8, the harsh blockade prevented anyone from reaching him or confirming his fate. After the first humanitarian ceasefire began ten days after the incident, no trace of him was found, as reported by his sister Salam to the Palestinian Information Center.

A life filled with sacrifice and responsibility
Mahmoud was a central figure in his family and among the residents of the Sabra neighborhood. He was married twice; first to Zainab, with whom he had three sons and three daughters, two of whom were later martyred in the war. He then married Amira, with whom he had a daughter named Lin.

Mahmoud was not just a husband and father; he was a source of hope and comfort for his family. He took great care of his ailing mother, who lived under harsh conditions, having lost her son Mahmoud and several of her grandchildren, as well as her daughter-in-law. His mother passed away in grief after losing most of her family in the ongoing wars.

The incident on street 8: A critical moment
His sister Salam recounts: “On November 15, 2023, Mahmoud was shot by an Israeli sniper on Street 8, leading to his injury. With the person accompanying him also injured, Mahmoud had to flee in an attempt to survive. Although some people saw him being shot at, his fate remained unclear for a long time due to the severe blockade, which prevented anyone from reaching him.”

Salam added that ten days later, with the start of the ceasefire, the family was able to reach his location, but his martyrdom could not be confirmed at that time.

A legacy of sacrifice and patience
Despite the harsh conditions faced by the residents of Gaza, Mahmoud’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He was a symbol of sacrifice and patience, leaving behind a legacy of love and giving that will never be forgotten among his family and the people of the Sabra neighborhood.
