DAMASCUS (PIC)– Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh on Monday evening met with a delegation of the Hamas Movement led by its leader Khaled Mishaal for a discussion on inter-Palestinian reconciliation efforts.

Well informed sources told PIC reporter that the discussions tackled the national Palestinian dialog scheduled to kick off in the Egyptian capital on 25/2/2009.

They added that the talks also covered the calm issue and the changes in the Israeli position through trying to link the calm agreement to the issue of the captured Israeli soldier.

For his part Saleh asserted the importance of ending the inter-Palestinian rift to face the challenges facing the Palestine cause and the Arab world at large.

The Yemeni head of state said that the Palestinian reconciliation would carry positive impact on efforts to achieve inter-Arab conciliation and to boost Arab solidarity especially before the Arab summit scheduled to be held next month in Doha.

He reiterated his country’s support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights topped by an independent state on national soil with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Hamas delegation included deputy political bureau chairman Dr. Mousa Abu Marzouk along with political bureau members Mohammed Nasr and Ezzet Al-Resheq among others.
