Egypt blocks entry of French doctors into Gaza

Monday 23-February-2009

RAFAH (PIC)– The Egyptian authority at the Rafah border terminal with the Gaza Strip has blocked the entry of a French team of doctors into the Strip for the sixth day running.

The doctors said that they were adamant on reaching Gaza and would not return to France without completing their mission.

They argued that there was no justification for preventing their access into the Strip especially after they obtained the necessary approvals from France and its embassy in Cairo.

The 16-member-delegation was joined by another British team of five peace activists who were also barred from entering the Strip.

Egypt allowed at a late hour on Thursday night the entry of a delegation of Turkish engineers into the Strip.

The Egyptian authority opened the Rafah border terminal for traffic in both ways on Sunday for those stranded on both ends of the terminal for a limited period of three days.
