Abbas’s ambassador to South Africa takes part in Israeli activities

Thursday 12-August-2010

RAMALLAH (PIC)– A Palestinian students union demands that the ambassador of the Abbas authority in South Africa Ahmed Halima cancels his scheduled appearance at an event organized by an Israeli students union to be held Thursday.

The union argued in a letter addressed to Halima that the union sponsoring the function dubbed “Towards Peace in the Middle East – The Current Status of Democracy” is known for its open support of the Israeli occupation and apartheid policies.

“The ambassador’s participation in an activity organized by an extreme Zionist institution goes against the interests of the Palestinian people. The pro-Palestinian movement in South Africa sees this institution as a group which works night and day for Israeli interests and to cover up its crimes” the students said.

The South African Union of Jewish Students (SAUJS) is not committed to human rights or international law the students went on to say as it did not condemn the Israeli 2008-2009 war against Gaza and supported the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla calling the fleet a “terrorist flotilla” aimed at supplying Gaza with “weapons and explosives” in conflict with the opinions of the international community and the United Nations which agreed that the Israeli attack on the Freedom ships constitutes a breech of international law.
