Miles of Smiles 2 arrives in Gaza

RAFAH (PIC)– The second European aid convoy Miles of Smiles were allowed into the Gaza Strip on Monday evening after it was held up for long hours on the Egyptian side of Rafah border crossing.

The Palestinian information center’s reporter said the convoy was made up of 43 European and Arab activists 46 ambulances for the people with special needs medicines and medical equipment worth one million euros.

For his part spokesman for the aid mission Isam Yousuf expressed his thanks to Cairo for allowing in the convoy and pointed out that the organizers of the convoy would cooperate with the Palestinian Red Crescent and the Palestinian government in Gaza to distribute the aid.

The first Miles of Smiles arrived in Gaza last November and included 102 small vehicles and ambulances in addition to wheelchairs and supplies for children with special needs.

The new convoy was organized by partners for peace and development the national committee to break Gaza siege the international campaign of solidarity with Gaza children the UNRWA and the general federation of Red Crescent and Red Cross in the Middle East and North Africa.

Following their arrival in Gaza the members of the convoy participated in a news conference held by Palestinian minister of social affairs Ahmed Al-Kurd in Rafah area.

Minister Kurd hailed the convoy members for their efforts to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza and stressed that the main mission of aid convoys is not to alleviate the siege or to bring food and things but to send a message to the besieging parties in order to urge them to end their restrictions on Gaza people and leave them live and move in freedom.
