RAMALLAH (PIC)– Dr. Aziz Dweik the speaker of the Palestinian legislative council and Hamas PLC members on Monday lashed out at the preventive security apparatus in the West Bank for summoning former minister and MP Amal Siyam.
They declared their condemnation of such an act in the strongest words describing the step as “irresponsible” and would only entail more tragedies for the Palestinian cause.
They said in a statement that the step did not take into consideration the fact that Siyam was a former minister that still enjoys parliamentary immunity other than being a woman. They added that the summons violated all traditions and norms that stipulate sparing women all kinds of differences.
The Bethlehem deputies said in another statement that the step crossed all red lines warning that continuation of such acts would worsen the already bad conditions.
The lawmakers urged the Ramallah authority to resort to reason and to put national interest above any other partisan interest calling in this regard for respecting the Palestinian society’s centuries-old traditions.
