NEW YORK (PIC)– The UN appointed Saturday the Turkish and Israeli representatives in the UN investigation into Israel’s deadly attack on the Freedom Flotilla last May.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon declared that Turkey assigned Özdem Sanberk on the panel while Israel chose Joseph Ciechanover noting that “both are outstanding in public service.”
The four-member committee will be chaired by New Zealand Prime Minister Geoffrey Palmer and former Colombian president Alvaro Uribe who will act as vice-president as announced by the UN.
The first committee meeting between all four members is expected to be held August 10th.
Israel had previously refused to participate in a UN probe into the pro-Palestinian flotilla massacre.
