Israel razing homes in the Jordan Valley for the third time in a week

Thursday 5-August-2010

JORDAN VALLEY (PIC)– Israeli bulldozers began Thursday morning an ongoing operation of home demolitions in the Farisiyya area of the northern Jordan Valley.

Local sources said that dozens of Israeli soldiers accompanied by a planning and construction committee raided the ramshackle area and started demolishing houses reconstructed by locals several days ago.

Israeli forces seized a few days before a bulldozer during its use in rebuilding the ruined village. Israeli soldiers threatened to demolish the rebuilt structures.

Farisiyya is located in the eastern part of Tubas in the area of Wadi Al Maleh 20 km from the city of Tubas stretching from the Tayasir checkpoint in the west to the Jordan River in the east.

It has a population of 241 people. It had more than one thousand residents before Israel’s occupation in 1967. The economy is chiefly based on agriculture and livestock.

The IOF transformed a large part of the village’s land into closed military zones and took control of all the region’s water sources to supply Israeli settlements.

The village’s eastern territories were converted into mined areas.
