Thursday 25-October-2007

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is to meet Israeli premier Ehud Olmert on Friday to iron out differences over final status issues before the autumn conference according to Hebrew media on Thursday.

The Israeli radio said that the two men would attempt to bridge gaps between them over formulating a joint document of principles to be tabled with the conference.

Abbas and Olmert held a series of meetings over the past few months in a bid to prepare for the international conference called for by the American president George Bush this autumn.

The broadcast said that the Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams met last night with Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni and former PA premier Ahmed Qurei heading each party’s team.

Olmert and Abbas asked the negotiating teams to draft a joint document that would tackle the final status issues such as the borders Jerusalem and the refugees although Israeli officials declared their rejection to the return of Palestinian refugees to the 1948 occupied lands.

The IOF troops killed eight Palestinian citizens over the past 48 hours including a prisoner two children four resistance fighters and an interior ministry official.
