DAMASCUS (PIC)– A reliable source in the Arab parliamentary union (APU) said that its general secretariat was busy preparing a visit to the Gaza Strip hoping that the visit would take place by mid February.
Quds Press news agency on Friday quoted the source who preferred to remain anonymous as saying that the delay in the official announcement of the visit was to ensure the participation of all Arabs.
He added that the APU delegation to be headed by its secretary general and the membership of one MP from each Arab country would most probably visit Gaza by 14 or 15 February.
The team members would express solidarity with the Gaza people and get acquainted with the destructive results of the Israeli aggression in addition to discussing with Palestinian officials what the APU could do to alleviate the people’s suffering in the Strip the source elaborated.
He noted that the final date of the visit would be made public on Wednesday on the sidelines of a conference for parliamentarians in Uganda and after the Egyptian parliament speaker Ahmed Surur gives his approval.
The sources did not rule out an attempt by the APU delegation to bridge the gap between Hamas and Fatah movements to end the internal Palestinian division.
