RAMALLAH (PIC)– PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is currently considering a group of proposals including appointing a deputy for him and changing the Palestinian basic law to allow him to dissolve the PLC where Hamas deputies are the majority according to Palestinian official sources.
The sources told the UAE paper ‘Al-Khalij’ that the amendment would open the way before Abbas to dissolve the parliament and call for early general elections to end what they called the current PLC’s “stalemate”.
The sources said that Abbas would effect those amendments soon but implementing them would be linked to the outcome of the autumn conference on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The USA is pressuring Abbas to appoint Fatah MP Mohammed Dahlan as his deputy according to media reports. Dahlan who is known as the leader of the mutiny trend within Fatah had fled Gaza after Hamas’s takeover.
