NABLUS (PIC)– Israeli bulldozers are expanding the Hawara military base and are apparently bracing for clashes as Palestinians plan on asking the United Nations for statehood status this month witnesses told the Palestinian Information Center.
They said it appeared that additional caravans were being set up there or the area would be used as extra space for military vehicles.
Meanwhile media outlets have reported that the Israeli army has moved tanks and armored vehicles to border areas around Jenin city for the past two days without knowing why. But it was suspected that it was in preparation for possible tension in September after the Palestinians’ statehood bid.
Witnesses said large trucks unloaded three tanks near the Jalama checkpoint between Jenin and the Israeli border while other tanks were placed near the Israeli Salem military base west of the city.
They added that the tanks have been stationary but their presence is unfamiliar in recent years.
Israel last used tanks in the West Bank in 2003 for the first time since 1967 in the first three years of the Al-Aqsa intifada.
