Imprisoned MPs call on Abbas to reconsider his positions

Wednesday 19-September-2007

RAMALLAH (PIC)– The Palestinian imprisoned MPs from the Hamas-affiliated change and reform parliamentary bloc called in a letter leaked from the Israeli Megiddo prison on PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to reconsider his positions after Israeli premier Ehud Olmert decided to retreat from his promise to release 100 Fatah-affiliated prisoners in Ramadan.

The imprisoned MPs stated: “the Palestinian people with all its noble values struggles and sacrifices feel ashamed of the PA chief’s rush to meet with the enemy of Palestinian people in order to get fragile promises.”

They explained that Abbas meets with Olmert more than he meet with leaders of Palestinian factions or even with his aides and cabinet ministers without any respect for the Palestinian citizens’ feelings who are daily targeted by the Israeli war machine.

For his part Mushir Al-Masri secretary-general of Hamas-affiliated change and reform parliamentary bloc confirmed in a press statement to the Quds Press that the Israeli aggressions against the Ein refugee camp in Nablus is the direct result of the ongoing meetings between Abbas and Olmert.

Al-Masri also described the meetings between Abbas and Olmert as “a major crime which will not be condoned by history”.

The secretary-general underlined that this daily Israeli aggression shows that the outcome which the IOA wants from the autumn conference is to impose its own agenda and vision concerning the Palestinian state and its geographic boundaries calling on those who wager on the meeting and who are trying to run behind illusions to reconsider their positions before it is too late.

For his part Dr. Abdul Sattar Qassem the professor of political science at the Najah national university stated in a press release that the repeated Israeli assaults on the Nablus city and the Palestinian people and the attempts to invade the Gaza Strip are not incompatible with the talk about peace and the autumn conference because the joint goal of the conference participants is to eradicate the legitimate Palestinian resistance.

Dr. Qassem highlighted that the IOA would not grant any concessions at the level of the core issues especially to the PA chief because it considers him weak and the “Zionist entity” does not give any concessions to someone of weak personality and the second reason is that the PA security apparatuses failed in front of Hamas in Gaza and are unreliable in the West Bank.
