BEIRUT (PIC)– Veteran Fatah political leader Hani Al-Hassan has affirmed that Palestinians wouldn’t accomplish anything if they remain politically divided urging his mother faction to heed Hamas’s calls for national dialogue.
“It must be understood that without real Palestinian national unity Palestinian leadership would accomplish no political achievement and we must acknowledge that Hamas is an essential force in the Palestinian arena; hence Fatah and Hamas are invited to take a number of steps in order to bridge the political gap between them” affirmed Al-Hassan in an interview with the Quds Press news agency in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
Moreover Hassan affirmed that the ill-fated Oslo agreement was a futile accord asserting that the 14-year-old agreement brought no good for the Palestinian people as the Israeli occupation government undermined it and disavowed its political obligations towards the Palestinian people stipulated in the covenant.
“The Oslo agreement has indeed ended up with total failure as the Israeli occupation government twisted articles of the treaty and only implemented articles in its favor but shunned articles in favor of the Palestinians” Hassan underscored in the interview.
He attributed the failure of the agreement to the lack of “legal and binding guarantees” to force both parties into implementing it completely and without maneuvering.
The successive Israeli occupation governments refused to specify a timetable for the final status negations with the Palestinians and maneuvered to buy time and to expand Israeli settlements at the expense of the Palestinian land in a bid to impose facts on the ground before engaging in any such final talks.
Hamas and other Palestinian opposition parties had condemned the agreement on the first day of promulgating it affirming it was against the national aspirations and constants of the Palestinian people.
The PLO and the Israeli occupation government had signed the agreement in the Norwegian capital Oslo in 1993 as Palestinian negotiators headed by Mahmoud Abbas the current PA chief held backdoor talks with Israeli officials headed by Shimon Peres the incumbent Israeli president in Oslo while official PLO delegates were busy in negotiations in Washington D.C.
Abbas and Peres are believed to be the engineers of this infamous agreement that inflicted more harm on the Palestinian people rather than solving their national issue.
