GAZA (PIC)– Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum categorically denied claims spread by Al-Arabiya channel that there were disputes within the Movement over the Doha declaration.
Spokesman Barhoum told the Palestinian information center (PIC) such news reports were untrue and stressed that the Doha declaration is a package deal that would be implemented as a whole and simultaneously in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The spokesman said his Movement is committed to eliminating all obstacles to the national reconciliation and the Doha declaration vindicated its credibility.
He noted that any upcoming interim government should be formed according to the Palestinian basic law and embark on preparing for general elections breaking the blockade on the Gaza Strip reconstructing it and networking with all regional and international parties to support the justice of the Palestinian cause.
In this regard second deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council Hasan Khareisha told Quds Press yesterday that the agreement on naming Mahmoud Abbas as a premier of the coming caretaker government could be an acceptable way out at the current stage especially since Abbas was insistent on Salam Fayyad.
Khareisha noted however that the designation of Abbas as a premier was against the Palestinian basic law and set the clock back because he would hold two posts the Palestinian authority presidency and the premiership as happened before with late president Yasser Arafat.
He emphasized that there could be a solution to this unconstitutional matter by convening the legislative council to amend the basic law which stipulates that the PA president and the premier are two individuals with different powers and terms of reference.
For his part Israeli right-wing premier Benjamin Netanyahu launched a scathing attack on Doha declaration that was signed on Monday between Hamas political leader Khaled Mashaal and de facto president Mahmoud Abbas and demanded the latter to choose between Hamas or the (far-fetched) peace with Israel.
Using his usual deceptive tone of speech Netanyahu labeled Hamas in a meeting with his fellow members of the Likud party as a terrorist group aiming to exterminate Israel with the help of Iran and called on Abbas to choose between the peace with Israel or Hamas.
