Shalit committee asks court to cancel release of freed Palestinian

Monday 6-February-2012

RAMALLAH (PIC)– A specialized Israeli committee formed to look into violations of the prisoners’ exchange deal between Hamas and Israel claimed that one of the freed captives in the deal had violated conditions for his release.

Human rights sources told the PIC that the “Shalit committee” tabled a request with the Ofer military court on Sunday for the arrest of Ayman Sharawne 33.

The committee said that Sharawne had violated terms of his release and should be back in prison to serve the remaining period of his sentence. The ex-prisoner had served 10 years of his 28 years sentence.

The sources said that the committee did not present any public statement to the court but rather said that it has secret intelligence information in the issue.

They said that the Israeli occupation had ordered Sharawne to meet the intelligence officer in his area once every two months not to leave his area of residence for thee years and not to commit any security violation in the remaining 18 years of his sentence.

Israeli police had interrogated Sharawne recently and accused him of leaving Al-Khalil without permission from the intelligence and of contacting deportees in Gaza and in foreign countries. He denied all charges.

The Israeli committee’s request would be discussed in a hearing on 13 February.
