GAZA (PIC)– Palestinian health minister Dr. Basim Naim has warned of a health tragedy in the Gaza Strip in the event the power outages in the besieged enclave continued.
He said in a press release on Thursday that the daily ten hours of power outage threatens stoppage of vital health services such as surgery theaters intensive care units and kidney dialysis machines.
Naim said that depending on generators could not be the solution as the energy generated by those generators is not enough to operate medical machines efficiently which negatively affects those machines and could lead to damaging them.
Furthermore fuel to cover needs of those generators in hospitals and medical centers is sufficient for five days only the ministers said.
He addressed an urgent appeal to the Egyptian leadership to expedite linking Gaza to the regional power network to end its electricity crisis once and for all.
