Public freedom committee meets exchanges names of detainees

Thursday 5-January-2012

GAZA (PIC)– The monitoring committee of public freedoms discussed in its second meeting on Wednesday the files in question and exchanged the names of political prisoners from Fatah and Hamas factions.

Islamic Jihad leader and coordinator of the monitoring committee Khaled Al-Batsh said the committee is determined to complete its tasks despite the slow progress because it is the product of five years of division.

The coordinator stated that the Palestinian factions in their meeting in Gaza resumed their deliberations on the issues of political detainees passports the closed institutions and public and political freedom.

“We are studying in depth all issues and hoping to see tangible results on the ground next week” he said.

Batsh also noted that another committee meeting would take place next Saturday in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through video conferencing.

In a related context the social reconciliation committee agreed in a meeting held in Gaza on Wednesday to form a presidential council of three members assigned to set mechanisms for the social committee’s work.

Member of the social committee Mohi-Addin Abu Daka told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that the committee held its meeting in a very positive atmosphere in the presence of all members.

He said this formed presidential council would hold next Saturday a meeting to develop mechanisms for the committee’s work and another meeting on Wednesday to complete discussions in this regard and make an inventory of all people who were affected by the national division as a prelude to achieving the social reconciliation.
