Israeli court acquits killer of Palestinian driver

Sunday 17-June-2007

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– An Israeli court on Sunday acquitted an Israeli settler who slaughtered a Palestinian taxi driver after accepting a report by an Israeli psychiatrist that the settler was not fit to appear before court.

Family of the slaughtered man Tayseer Al-Karki 35 did not accept the verdict saying that it would encourage Israelis to commit more such crimes against Palestinian civilians.

The Israeli settler Julian Soufir asked Karki to drive him from occupied Jerusalem to Tel Aviv and there Soufir stabbed Karki to death after inviting him to his apartment.

Israeli courts had previously acquitted Israelis of murdering Palestinians at the pretext of being mentally ill while Palestinians get arrested and detained sometimes without charge or trial for mere suspicion of  having committed something against occupation their psychological state is never taken into account by the military court which tries them.

Karki is survived by a widow and five children.
