Barghouthi expresses surprise at world silence

Saturday 26-May-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– The PA government on Saturday condemned the Israeli military aggression on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and expressed surprise at the world silence towards such a serious escalation.

Dr. Mustafa Al-Barghouthi the PA government spokesman and its information minister said in a press release that at a time his government was seeking a comprehensive and reciprocal truce with Israel the Tel Aviv government was giving orders to kill more Palestinians and escalate tensions in the region.

The minister pointed out that 72 Palestinians were killed ever since the PA national unity government was formed two months ago mostly civilians and children in return for one Israeli killed in response to the Israeli escalation.

He expressed surprise at the world silence towards such war crimes charging that the international community was dealing with Israel as a “state above the law”.

Barghouthi urged all concerned international parties to pressures the Israeli occupation government into accepting the Palestinian offer of a comprehensive and reciprocal truce and to halt its military escalation and violations of international rules and doctrines.
