The civil defense directorate in Gaza Strip has called on the Arab countries, especially Egypt, to urgently act to prevent a bloodbath in Rafah.
Mahmoud Basal, the directorate’s spokesman, said in a statement on Monday that an Israeli ground incursion in Rahah, in southern Gaza Strip, would lead to a bloodbath.
Any Israeli escalation in overcrowded Rafah City threatens an unprecedented massacre in lines of the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, who have sought refuge in the city, he added.
Basal said that there is no empty place in Rafah with every corner in it crammed with displaced persons, warning that any Israeli shelling would lead to thousands of casualties.
He pointed out that the hospitals in Rafah could not cope with such high number of casualties while the civil defense is almost crippled in such a situation.
The spokesman appealed to the Arab countries to intervene immediately to avert such a possibility.
The Israeli army has been waging a bloody war on the Gaza Strip since October 7 last year that killed more than 28,000 citizens and wounded more than 67,000 others while displacing 85% of the Gaza Strip population, around 1.9 million people, according to Gaza authorities and international organizations.
