Hamas Movement said that the UN World Food Program’s (WFP) suspension of deliveries of life-saving food aid to the northern Gaza Strip is a dangerous development that will aggravate the human suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and northern governorates, in light of the Israeli stifling siege, stressing that it constitutes a surrender to the reality of genocide imposed by Israel.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Movement called on the WFP and international agencies, including UNRWA, to put pressure on Israel, by resuming work in the northern Gaza Strip in compliance with their international obligations to save citizens from the severely escalating threat of famine.
Hamas also called on the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take urgent action to break the siege and relieve the Palestinian people from the threat of starvation and genocide, demanding the activation of the resolution of the emergency Arab-Islamic summit that was held in Riyadh last November.
The Movement called for “a strong stance in the face of the Zionist policy of ethnic cleansing against our people, and to put pressure on governments around the world to isolate this Nazi entity, and to force it to respect the international humanitarian law by stopping its prevention of access to relief and medicine aid in the Gaza Strip.”
The famine has recently been deepening in areas of northern Gaza, as a result of the depletion of basic food supplies such as flour, rice, canned food, grains, and even animal feed that citizens have been left no choice but to eat because of hunger.
Approximately 700,000 people are still residing in northern Gaza, rejecting the Israeli displacement policy despite relentless bombardment, destruction, and starvation.
