Belgian premier Alexander De Croo has described the death of Palestinian children in Gaza from starvation as “absolutely unacceptable.”
In social media remarks, De Croo stressed the need for both parties (Hamas and Israel) to sign a ceasefire deal immediately.
He expressed Belgium’s appreciation for Qatar’s role in negotiating a ceasefire and prisoner release.
The Belgian premier posted the remarks following his meeting on Saturday with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha.
Earlier on the same day, De Croo warned Israel against using hunger as a “weapon of war” in the Gaza Strip, urging the Israeli government to open more access points for humanitarian aid.
“I see today there is a very large population [in Gaza] at risk of famine,” the Belgian leader told journalists in Amman, Jordan, during a whistle-stop tour of the Middle East. “It is up to Israel to prove that famine will not be used as a weapon of war.”
